Funding
Below is a list of allowances that may be available
to you to assist with the cost of your care. This list is not exhaustive
and you should contact your local Social Services department or
benefits office for further guidance.
Initially, it is likely that a Health
and Social Care Assessment will need to be carried
out by your local social services department to determine which
benefits you may be entitled to.
Attendance
Allowance
Attendance Allowance (AA) is a tax-free benefit for people aged
65 or over who need help with personal care because they are physically
or mentally disabled. If you are under 65 you may be able to get
Disability
Living allowance
Disability Living Allowance - sometimes referred to as DLA - is
a tax-free benefit for children and adults who need help with personal
care or have walking difficulties because they are physically or
mentally disabled.
Carers
Allowance
Carers Allowance is a benefit to help people who look after someone
who is disabled. You do not have to be related to, or live with,
the person you care for.
Independent
Living Fund
The Independent Living (1993) Fund is designed to help you, if
you are disabled, to live independently at home rather than in residential
care. You can use payments from the fund to employ people to give
you personal and domestic care in your home.
